In 1949, Matsukevich Lev Petrovich founded the fencing department at the integrated sports school. The department worked in a small wooden pavilion at the Burevestnik stadium in Samarsky lane, where the Olimpiysky sports complex is currently located. Among the students of Lev Petrovich: Olympic champion Mark Rakita, silver medalist of the World Championship Valery Zhitny.

In January 1967, the school was given the status of an Olympic reserve. The assignment of an honorary status is the result of the work of the coaching team that developed at that time.
