World Championship figure skating ended on Saturday in Milan, Italy with a dance tournament, the winners of which for the third time in their career were the French Gabriela Papadakis / Guillaume Sizeron. Russia remained in this type of program without awards, however overall result performances of the team should be considered worthy. The Russians have two medals: Evgenia Tarasova / Vladimir Morozov won the first silver medal in their career in pair skating, Mikhail Kolyada received a bronze medal in men's single skating.

World Cup 2018 in figure skating. Milan, Italy).The composition of the Russian team:

In three types of the program, Russian figure skaters secured the maximum number of quotas at the next World Championships (three each), in dancing, like a year ago, they won two vacancies.

Remember the last

Papadakis and Sizeron updated all three world records in Milan, which was another achievement for the duet, in addition to medals: despite the fact that the French have collected all the highest titles for three years (the only exception was the Olympic Games), the record result in the short dance has never did not previously belong to them. Now dance records look like this: 83.73 points in the short dance, 123.47 in the free dance and 207.20 in the standings of two programs.

The free dance of the French, of course, has adorned the current world championship- the performance of many leaders in the other three disciplines turned out to be frankly a failure in Milan.

The dance tournament was a benefit for Canadian coaches Marie-France Dubreuil, Patrice Lauzon and Frenchman Romain Haguenauer: second place was also won by their wards Madison Hubbell/Zachary Donoghue, who had never climbed to the podium of major tournaments (the duo was ninth at last year's World Championships). The dancers became US champions for the first time this season, and in Milan overtook Canada's Caitlin Weaver/Andrew Poje, who became bronze medalists.

Russian athletes Alexandra Stepanova/Ivan Bukin and Tiffany Zagorski/Jonathan Gureiro are in seventh and eighth positions. Both duets in the free dance exceeded their personal records, and the second of the pairs added four points to the best personal result at once.

Bronze little blood

On Saturday, 18-year-old American Nathan Chen became the world champion in men's singles. Having shown the best result of the season in the world in the free program, he was ahead of the vice-champion of the Olympic Games Shomu Uno by 47.63 points.

The holiday also happened on the Russian street: Mikhail Kolyada became the third, Dmitry Aliev - the seventh, and with these results the skaters provided Russia with the maximum number of quotas at the next world championship, which was a big surprise: Russian single skaters did not have to perform at the world championships with a full squad for many years .

"I am dissatisfied with the performance (of the free program), mistakes were made, but according to the second assessment, according to the performance, I liked everything. Of course, there are questions about the technical part. But the season is over. I think that I performed quite well here at the World Championships," said Kolyada to the press service of the Russian Figure Skating Federation (FFKKR).

“Even before the World Championships, my coach and I decided that we would skate such programs, a lighter version of the short one,” added the athlete. “Only three weeks have passed since the Games, and not everyone has time to recover in such a short period of time. And only now comes awareness The season was quite long, intense, but I felt pretty easy today. short program I tried not to think about places and medals. If you think about it, you can go crazy."

Chen repeated his Olympic achievement, having completed six jumps in four turns in a free program, and set a new season record for free skate and in the sum of two programs (219.46 and 321.40).

The second Russian participant Dmitry Aliev became the seventh, having completed three quadruple jumps in a free program.

“These are my first three quadruples in the free program that I managed to do,” the skater told the FFKKR press service. “In general, I am satisfied with the performance, with the exception of the “butterfly” on the axel, which I could not do, because I had the strength. "I'm tired. But I could jump. This is my first season at the senior level. I myself understand that I can work and compete with the guys who are on the podium. For me, these points that I received today are not what I'm going to .I want to get more, go higher, for this you need to work harder and ride cleaner."

Shock therapy

The final of women's single skating, which was supposed to be a triumph for Russia, turned out to be the most painful. Canadian Caitlin Osmond became the world champion for the first time, but Olympic champion Alina Zagitova and five-time European champion Carolina Kostner, who, according to all forecasts, were supposed to play gold and silver of the world championship, remained fifth and fourth.

With the exception of the combination "double axel - triple toe loop", performed with a slight blot on the landing from the second jump, all other elements of the free program were performed by the Canadian on the pluses, she scored a rather high amount of points in two rentals (223.23), but it is worth recognizing that the skater would hardly have been able to compete with Zagitova if the latter had not had a force majeure in the form of three falls.

Olympic champion Oleg Vasilyev told RIA Novosti that he was not surprised by the defeat of Zagitova.

“First of all, the problem is that after the Olympic Games, Alina’s training regimen was greatly lost. When a person, as they say, is “put on rails,” he will go normally, despite the stress. which was for many months when an athlete jumped a hundred, two hundred jumps daily, it is enough to skip training several times to get out of this standard," the specialist said.

“When you have a huge continuous work behind you, it creates inertia that kind of pushes you forward when you go out to compete. Zagitova’s victory at Olympic Games- this is just the result of the hard brutal work that she did. And then there was a pause, and there was less work. In this case, you have to concentrate more. This is a very difficult thing - to gather on maximum result when there is no tenfold margin," the expert explained.

According to Vasiliev, at a certain moment the Olympic champion "had a panic." “Zagitova fell on the first jump, and since her jumps in the free program go one by one at a very high pace, there was no time to figure out what to do. Panic set in. That’s all that happened,” he concluded.

Elena Buyanova's protégé Maria Sotskova finished eighth with a free skate with a fall on a triple lutz, while third Russian participant Stanislava Konstantinova, who made her debut this season in adult competition, took only 19th place, calling the experience terrible.

Sixfold Alena

The highlight of the championship was free program Olympic champions Alena Savchenko/Bruno Massot in pair skating. The 34-year-old athlete has added a sixth top world title to her collection, and her partner has become a world champion for the first time. The skaters completed the free skate with a world record and won against reigning champions Europe Evgenia Tarasova/Vladimir Morozov about twenty points.

The triumph of Evgenia Medvedeva and the gold of the Japanese wunderkind Yuzuru Hanyu at the 2017 World Championships have not yet been forgotten, and the 2018 World Figure Skating Championships have already loomed in the sports sky! New drawing of the main after Winter Olympics competition among figure skaters will be held in the Italian city of Milan. Dozens of world-famous athletes will compete for championship awards. But Special attention will again be riveted to athletes from Russia, Canada, Japan and China. At the moment, these are the main "curly" powers!

Where and when will the world figure skating championship 2018 take place

Milan is the world capital of haute couture. In the period from March 19 to March 25, 2018, this city will also become the center of world figure skating. If local authorities fail to organize sporting event- The competition will take place in Turin. This is a reserve city.

Milan hosted the World Cup only once - back in 1951. In total, the birthplace of Leonardo da Vinci and Giuseppe Verdi became the host country of the competition only 4 times.

The sports arenas where the figure skaters will perform at the 2018 World Cup are not yet known. Milan is replete with many SCs for all kinds of sports. Most likely, one of the following arenas will host the championship competition:

  • Forum di Assago;
  • Mazda Palace;
  • Pala Lido;
  • Agora;
  • Nuovo Giuriati.

Most for a role sports arena the 16,000th Forum di Assago is suitable for the competition. This is a multi-profile SC, which can be easily converted into a platform for any kind of competition.

2018 World Figure Skating Program

Athletes will compete in four categories:

  1. single men's skating;
  2. dancing on Ice;
  3. women's single skating;
  4. pair skating.

The competition for all participants will consist of two sections: a short program and a free program. The first part will last 2 minutes. 50 seconds. During it, athletes will show their basic skills. But the free program will require the participant to reveal their full potential! This will be the most important part in the schedule of the planetary championship among figure skaters. In the free program, the participant will not only have to skate his number cleanly, but also show remarkable artistry. This competitive block lasts almost 5 minutes. However, in order to qualify for an arbitrary part, a participant in the championship must score a certain number of points in the short program.

Competitors

To demonstrate the results at the figure skating planet championship, the participants of the upcoming competition must represent a country that is part of International Union skaters. Each member of the union has the right to nominate from 1 to 3 athletes (pairs) in each discipline. Here is the list of countries with maximum quotas:

  • Japan;
  • Russia;
  • Canada;
  • China.

Our country boasts 3 quotas in women's singles and pair skating. Therefore, the Russian national team for the 2018 World Figure Skating Championships will include 8 people. But the Canadians will have the most impressive representation. The North Americans will bring 10 athletes to Milan.

How was the 2017 World Cup

The last World Cup ended with the victory of Canada in general medal count. True, you can’t call it a loud triumph. The awards were "smeared" among other participants in the championship. Canada, Russia, Japan and China won one gold each. Representatives of the Maple Leaf Country took the lead thanks to one silver and bronze:

  • Canada: 1 gold, 1 silver, 1 bronze;
  • Japan: 1 gold, 1 silver;
  • China and Russia: 1 gold, 1 bronze.

And what about the Russian team? Not to say that the Russians successfully held the last championship draw. The men at the World Figure Skating Championships disappointed once again. Still, the 8th place of Mikhail Kolyada is far from the ultimate dream for the national team.

In the category of pair skating, our athletes were content with bronze. The medal was awarded to the duo Evgeny Morozov and Alexander Morozov. Another pair of Ksenia Stolbova and Fedor Klimov is in 5th place.

In the discipline of ice dancing, Russia was completely left without awards. The best domestic duo Ekaterina Bobrova and Dmitry Solovyov took only fifth place.

Last year's draw could have been called a failure if not for the first place of Evgenia Medvedeva at the World Women's Singles Championship. For a native of Moscow, this gold was the second in her career!

Afterword

Last year's draw of the competition turned out to be ambiguous. Expectedly pleased women and "hotbeds". However, fans have long missed gold in men's singles and ice dancing. At the upcoming World Cup Russian athletes have a great opportunity to fulfill the dreams of their fans!

The results of the women's free program at the World Championships were shocking - and this is not an exaggeration. Fans of the national teams of Russia and Italy are horrified - Carolina Kostner and Alina Zagitova could not stand the fight for gold and retired, having made mistakes. Recall that the tournament is held from 21 to 25 March 2018 in Milan.

Three falls. Failure

By the density of spectators in the stands of the arena in Milan, it was clear what all the fans of figure skating in the world were waiting for. As we approached the climax of the performance of the girls, the stands gradually filled up, and by the last warm-up there were no empty seats left in the hall. The last warm-up, of course, included the performance of more than two skaters. However, neither Miyahara nor Sotskova managed to create a miracle on the ice. Sotskova's mistake completely threw her off the podium, and therefore, before the two final rentals, Canada's Caitlin Osmond, who had already tried on bronze, remained in first place.

And then Alina Zagitova came on the ice. Everyone knows very well that the most difficult arbitrary 15-year-old Olympic champion is her main trump card. Therefore, the minimum gap between Alina and Carolina Kostner did not bother anyone - most experts considered the Russian figure skater to be the main contender for gold. However, what happened next was shocking.

Alina could not stand the pressure. Three falls. Complete failure. Nightmare.

Successes of athletes from Russia at the World Figure Skating Championships

Athletes from Russia on March 22, 2018 won silver medal at the World Figure Skating Championships. Evgenia Tarasova and Vladimir Morozov became the second in the free program among sports couples. The duo managed to score 225.53 points in all competitions. The second pair Natalya Zabiyako and Alexander Enbert took the 4th position, they managed to score - 207.88.

In a short dance on ice Russian athletes performed a little worse. The duet of Alexandra Stepanova and Ivan Bukin took 7th position, and the couple Tiffany Zagorsky and Jonathan Gureyro became 8th. However, this is only their 1st performance, the free dance performance in ice dancing will be decisive, where duets must show themselves in full glory.

Figure skating results 2018 world championship women, couples, men: results of single skating

The gold medal in women's singles was won by an athlete from Canada, Caitlin Osmond, who scored 223.23 points. Japan's Wakaba Higuchi came in second with 210.90 points, while Japan's Satoko Miyahara came in third with 210.08 points. The performance of Russian athletes was a complete failure. Girls during their performances fell one after another. Thus, distancing himself from the medals of the 2018 World Cup. And as a result, Russian Maria Sotskova became 8th with 196.61 points, and Stanislav Konstantinova became 19th, she replaced Evgenia Medvedeva, who could not take part due to a leg injury. The most shocking performance was Olympic champion Alina Zagitova, who at the beginning of her performance managed to fall 3 times. The girl tried with all her might to rehabilitate herself, but she did not succeed, and as a result, she was only 5th in the World Championship. Nathan Chen from the USA won the men's solo event with a score of 321.40. The second was the Japanese Soma Uno with 273.77 points. The bronze medalist was an athlete from Russia, Mikhail Kolyada, who scored 272.32 points, but his teammate Dmitry Aliev secured the 7th position with a score of 252.30. It is also worth noting that in the male solo performance there were some falls.

Figure skating results 2018 world championship women, couples, men: duo performance winners

Russian athletes Evgenia Tarasova and Vladimir Morozov were second with 225.53 points. The third position was taken by the French duo Vannesa James and Morgan Sipre - 218.36. The Russian couple Natalya Zabiyako and Alexander Enbert finished 4th with a score of 207.88. But the 3rd duo Kristina Astakhova and Alexei Rogonov were even less lucky, they became only 8th with 202.16 points. In the free dance on ice, athletes from France Gabriella Papadakis and Guillaume Sizeron took first place with a score of 207.20. The US duo Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donoghue came second with 194.64 points. Third place went to Caitlin Weaver and Andrew Poje from Canada with 192.35. Unfortunately, a couple from Russia Alexandra Stepanova and Ivan Bukin became 7th with 184.01 points, and Tiffany Zagorsky and Jonathan Gureyro took 8th place with 180.42.

The skates are in their cases, the suits are in their travel bags. Skaters from all over the world leave Milan with different moods. For some, the World Cup turned out to be excellent, for others it was a failure. Mixed feelings remained with Russian fans. Kolyada was technically weaker than his rivals, but received a medal, Zagitova was stronger, but failed. Tarasova and Morozov were good, but there was an abyss to gold, and there was a brick wall between the dance couples from Russia and the pedestal. "Championship" together with the Olympic medalist and famous choreographer Ilya Averbukh figured out the results of the tournament and looked to the future with optimism.

- Ilya, what was, in your opinion, the main event of the World Cup in Milan?
- For the first time in long years we have prize-winning place in men's singles. Misha Kolyada performed great, and Dima Aliyev took a big step forward. In this regard, Russia can send three athletes to the next tournament. This is a very serious achievement, since we have not had such a quota for a long time. This will definitely whip up all the Russian guys, give them more motivation, as their chances of going to the European and World Championships have increased.

- I suppose, the second place in pair skating is very close in importance?
- Certainly! I would like to commend our best couple- Evgeny Tarasov and Vladimir Morozov. They performed in Milan in their own strength. The German duet of Savchenko and Massot is now objectively stronger, and our guys have outperformed all other rivals. Yes, there was no Chinese couple that won silver at the Olympics, but the competition was still huge. And second place at the World Championships is a big start for the next four years. It was evident that after the Olympics the guys showed seasoned skating. This season has been a step forward for them in many ways, and I think next year we will see this couple seriously matured.

After the Olympics, Tarasova and Morozov showed seasoned skating. This season has been a step forward for them in many ways, and I think next year we will see this couple seriously matured.

- What happened at the World Championships with Alina Zagitova?
Much has already been said about her relative failure. I emphasize - relative, because the main start of the season was the Olympics, and Alina became the champion there. And this season she won the Grand Prix final and the European Championship. What happened to her at the World Cup? This is a sport: psychology, physical fatigue, and a change in anthropometric data have affected - all together. It hardly makes sense now to discuss all this again in detail. But it's not a tragedy, that's for sure. The most important thing in this situation is how we will see Alina at the beginning of next season, because she is having a difficult moment, a transitional period. Even if she won the World Championship, the victory would not insure her from these difficulties. Maybe the defeat will even serve as a cold shower and motivation for the next season, it will show that you should not rest on your laurels and need to prepare for the next starts.

There are no invincible Russians. Why Zagitova failed the World Cup

Alina Zagitova fell, got up and fell again. She had no more strength.

- You said about seasoned skating in relation to Tarasova and Morozov, but it seemed that all the participants in the Olympics, except for Zagitova, performed more maturely and confidently in Milan.
- It's true. The Olympics gave the guys a lot in terms of experience. Alina, perhaps, just didn’t have enough such experience - she, as it seemed, panicked after the first bad jump. But Tarasova and Morozov, the guys felt this experience. The Olympics gave them a lot in terms of confidence, understanding themselves on the ice. And now we have a very good, young team. We have not lost our positions and we can safely look into the forthcoming four years.

– First numbers Russian team criticized for the weak technical aspects of their programs. First of all, of course, we are talking about Kolyada, but others got it too. Do you think our top skaters have the potential to grow in terms of technique?
Yes, I see good prospects. We have the strongest team in women's singles with a huge level of competition. We have every chance to fight and win gold in pair skating - Tarasova and Morozov will progress. That is, already in two forms we are close to gold. In men's single skating, we really let go of our rivals a little, but there is still optimism. It can be seen that both Misha Kolyada and Dima Aliyev perform quadruple lutz, show the most difficult jumps, but so far they cannot do them with proper stability. But I think we can count on the revival of men's single skating. In dancing, breaking through the wall will be the most difficult, but even there everything is not hopeless - there are chances.

Slippery ice. Kolyada fell less often than his rivals and earned a medal

Competitors with complex programs fell and fell, and Kolyada performed with a simpler one with dignity and won bronze at the World Championships.

- What, by the way, with dancing at the World Championships? How would you rate the performances of the Russians?
- I have long liked a couple of Stepanova and Bukin. I think that they are competitive, if not with the champions from France, then with everyone else - for sure. It seems to me that they are still being held back a little in this US-Canadian field, but I think the guys will still have a chance to break through. I can’t help but rejoice for a couple of Zagorski and Gureyro: immediately getting into the top ten is very good result. If next year the couple of Stepanova and Bukin remains number one, I believe that they will be able to make a leap forward and start returning our dances to the leading positions. Moreover, we have another talented couple: Sinitsyna and Katsalapov. The guys have a huge potential, but they have lost a lot this season due to their unsuccessful performance at the Russian Championship. Hope they catch up next year.

The most important thing is what we will see Zagitova at the beginning of next season, because she has a difficult moment, a transitional period. And even if she won the World Championship, the victory would not insure her from these difficulties.

- There is an opinion that the judges at the World Championships in Italy were sometimes too weird. Was there anything out of the ordinary, or is everything about the usual at such tournaments?
- Everything was in moderation. Probably, one could talk about this topic when Carolina Kostner took first place after the short program, but then she really skated brilliantly. It was a wonderful performance by an outstanding figure skater at home ice. The judges are living people, they could take this into account and add a little bit to Carolina. But this is normal - this happens in all tournaments. In general, I would say this: whoever dashed off what, then in the end he got it.

- What specific performance at this World Cup do you remember the most?
- This is definitely Savchenko and Masso. Their free program is a real event! Everything else in this tournament is first and foremost figure skating and then something artistic. And this program of the German couple can be called a real art!
