Where did the Winter War Games take place? VII Summer World Military Games. Fourth day. Announcement. Throughout history

02.04.2020

BIATHLON

The name of the sport discipline comes from two Latin words “twice” and “struggle”, therefore initially biathlon was called modern winter biathlon. Includes cross-country skiing and rifle shooting across multiple shooting ranges.

The first race, vaguely reminiscent of biathlon, was organized by the border guards on the Swedish-Norwegian border back in 1767. In the 19th century in Norway, biathlon was formed as a sport for soldiers. The progenitor of modern biathlon, the competition of military patrols, was presented at Olympic Games ah in 1924, 1928, 1936 and 1948.

Within the framework of the III Winter Military World Games, competitions will be held in the following types: sprint (7.5 km for women, 10 km for men), mixed relay (6 km for women and 7.5 km for men) and patrol race (15 km for women, 20 km for men).

patrol racemodern look competitions of military patrols (race, which is the ancestor of biathlon). It is a 20 km race for men and 15 km for women, with three firing lines. Each participating country can enter two patrols (male and female).

The team consists of four athletes - biathletes and skiers. One of the team members is the leader of the patrol, three are members of the patrol, each of whom fires from a prone position and fires one shot at the center of his installation. In case of misses - penalty loops according to the number of team misses according to IBU rules.

Sprint- a type of biathlon race for 10 km for men and 7.5 km for women with two firing lines. Biathletes start at intervals of 30 seconds. After the first round, shooting from a prone position is performed, after the second - standing. Biathletes themselves choose firing positions on the shooting range for shooting. For each miss, a penalty loop of 150 m is provided.

mixed relay- biathlon team competition. The team consists of four athletes (two women and two men). Each biathlete completes one stage, which is 6 km for women and 7.5 km for men, with two firing lines.

One representative from each country starts at the same time and, having run their stage, they pass the baton to the next biathlete from their team. Women go first, then men. There are two shootings at each stage: the first one is lying down, the second one is standing. The athlete has three spare cartridges for each shooting. If the biathlete uses up spare cartridges, then for each subsequent miss, a penalty loop of 150 m is provided.

On May 22, 2015 in Kuwait, at the 70th General Assembly of the International Council of Military Sports (CISM), Sochi was given another Olympics, which will be held exactly three years after the iconic (but already spoiled by doping history) Games in 2014. From February 22 to February 28, 2017 in the resort city, the World Winter Military Games are an analogue of the real Olympic Games, but exclusively for the military.

SCAPP understands what these games are and what you can expect from them.

The Military World Games are the Olympic Games for active duty military personnel. By analogy with the Olympics, there are winter military games and summer ones. At the same time, participating countries often exhibit professional athletes who are in the armed forces, but are actually exempt from active military service (they serve one month a year for 10 to 12 years). For example, in the entire history of the Winter War Games, such famous athletes like Martin Fourcade, Ariana Fontana, Dario Cologna, Evie Sachenbacher-Stele and Natalia Korosteleva.

For the whole story?

Do they have a history?

Yes. The first (summer) games were held in 1995 in Rome and were dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II. As for the Winter Games, they began to be held much later: the first competitions were held in March 2010 in the Italian city of Aosta. Then athletes from 43 countries of the world took part in the games.

  • 1995 - Rome, Italy
  • 1999 - Zagreb, Croatia
  • 2003 - Catania, Italy
  • 2007 - Hyderabad, India
  • 2010 (winter) - Aosta, Italy
  • 2011 - Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
  • 2013 (winter) - Annecy, France
  • 2015 Mungyeong, Republic of Korea

So

And who is the organizer? IOC?

No, the International Olympic Committee has nothing to do with it. Organizer - CISM - International Military Sports Council. The organization was founded in 1948 in French Nice and now unites 134 countries. Considered one of the largest international sports organizations, yielding in size only to the International Olympic Committee and the International sports federation universities. By the way, CISM is officially recognized by the IOC and the UN.

OK

So there will be hockey at the games, figure skating etc?

No. And although the sports included in the competition program sometimes change, figure skating and hockey are not held as part of the military games. For example, the program of the Winter Military Games in Sochi-2017 includes 8 sports:

  • Biathlon
  • Ski race
  • Skiing
  • Ski orienteering
  • Ski mountaineering
  • Patrol Race
  • Indoor sport climbing
  • Short track

It's clear

And how do ours perform at these military games?

Better than the Olympic team. The Russian team participated in all summer games(except for 2011, when Russia refused to participate), where she took a confident first place in the team (not counting 2003, when they overtook China in the total number of medals, but lost in gold). And in 2015, the Russian team generally established absolute record Summer Military Games, winning a total of 135 medals (of which 59 are gold). While we don't have any problems in the summer, the situation with the winter games is worse: both times (in 2010 and 2013) - 4th place.

What will happen in Sochi?

And where will it all take place?

The III World Military Winter Games will be held in Sochi from 22 to 28 February 2017. It is planned that more than 4,000 athletes from 60 countries will take part in the competition, who will compete for 44 sets of medals. For comparison, for the last winter Games 850 athletes from 40 countries came to Annecy.

The opening ceremony will take place on February 23 (yes, Defender of the Fatherland Day) at the Bolshoi Ice Palace. For the sports part will be involved Olympic venues: ice palace "Big" (sport climbing), palace winter sports Iceberg (short track), GTZ Gazprom (cross-country skiing, biathlon and orienteering on skis), Rosa Khutor Group of Companies ( skiing and ski mountaineering). The closing ceremony of the Games will take place on February 27 at the Bolshoi Ice Palace.

In addition, a military-sports torch relay is planned (again, by analogy with the Olympic torch), the installation of a countdown clock before the start of the competition (on the main city squares) and the participation of the CSKA helicopter aerobatic team.

On Friday evening, Ice Cube Stadium in Olympic park Sochi has turned from a meeting place for curling enthusiasts into a huge VIP hall, where, among other guests, Russian prime minister, Defense Minister Sergei and President of the International Military Sports Council (CISM) Colonel Abdulhakim al-Shino.

The preparation of Sochi for the 3rd Winter Military World Games went on for two years. They are in Russia for the first time. Prior to this, the competition was hosted by Italy and France. War games have a lot in common with Olympic competitions. The main difference is that only the military compete here. In addition, the program of the games includes some non-Olympic sports: for example, ski mountaineering, short track, ski orienteering, as well as rock climbing, which will enter the Olympic program for the first time only in 2020 in Tokyo.

The war games biathlon program includes another unique discipline - the “patrol race”. It is played by teams of four who start together. The leader of the patrol runs without a weapon - three “patrolmen” are shooting at his team. In case of a miss by one participant, the whole team is sent to the penalty loops.

The potential list of participants consists of representatives of 135 countries, but only 26 teams came to Russia for the competition, including teams from China, Germany, Italy, France and Iran.

When asked by journalists why many countries ignored the event, CISM Secretary General, Colonel Dorah Mumbi Koita from Guinea, said that the Russian side had sent out invitations to everyone, but fewer teams arrived than at previous games in France.

“Our organization includes 135 states. About 70% of them are not winter, which is probably why they did not come. In my country (Guinea. - Gazeta.Ru) the temperature in winter is 25 degrees, it’s cold in Sochi, ”the black colonel joked.

At the entrance, the guests were given bracelets glowing in the dark with the official logo, which effectively emphasized the applause of the three thousandth arena.

The opening ceremony was started by the drummers of the Khalilov Moscow Military Music School and the boarding school for pupils.

The next to perform was the Alexandrov Academic Ensemble of the Russian Army, whose artists were recruited again after the Tu-154 disaster in Sochi in December.

The prima ballerina and soloist of the Bolshoi Theater and, stunt motorcyclists and extreme sportsmen performed for the guests.

The fire of the World Military Games was lit by biathletes - a lieutenant colonel and a two-time Olympic champion and sports veteran, also two-time Olympic champion, reserve colonel 65-year-old Anatoly Alyabyev.

The flags of the participating teams were carried by the servicemen of the guard of honor company of the 154th separate commandant's Preobrazhensky regiment. The German national team was the first to appear on the arena, and the procession was closed by Russian team.

Shoigu was the first to come out to the podium to greet the competitors on behalf of the President of Russia.

In the same place, in Sochi, Shoigu said that the term "ostentatious military unit» is excluded from the Russian army dictionary. This is reported with reference to the Match TV channel.

“I just crossed out the word “ostentatious” from my lexicon and our army dictionary. What does "show regiment" mean? And who will fight tomorrow? One such “ostentatious military unit”? And why then all the rest? - said the head of the Ministry of Defense.

Medvedev, who spoke second, stressed that war games are peaceful competitions.

“And their participants will show not the ability to fight, but sports achivments, honest wrestling," the prime minister said.

He recalled the motto of the International Council of Military Sports - "Friendship through sports!".

CISM leader Abdulhakim al-Shino in his speech drew the attention of the audience that the international sanctions imposed on Russia were not taken into account when choosing a country to host the competition.

“Russia is a very powerful country in the modern world. Therefore, during the voting, it was Russia's candidacy that was chosen, without any regard for the political situation. The political situation was very tough, but in our organization there is no place for politics, we are all equal,” said the leader of the world organization of military athletes.

The competition itself began even before the official opening - on Friday morning.

The first day brought the Russian team 11 medals, including six golds.

So far, nothing has been officially announced about what additional encouragement the Russian medalists of the World Military Games will receive, but the athletes themselves are counting on the assignment of an early military rank.

For example, a skater lieutenant admitted that he dreams of rising to the rank of colonel. For him, the strongest opponents at the games are athletes from Italy and China.

The "Military Olympiad" takes place from February 24 to 27 inclusive at four sites: in the Iceberg Ice Palace, in the Bolshoy Sports Palace, in the Laura Ski and Biathlon Complex and ski center"Rosa Khutor". In total, about 1,000 athletes from 26 countries take part in the competition. They will compete for 44 sets of awards in seven sports: biathlon, cross-country skiing, skiing, ski mountaineering, short track, rock climbing and ski orienteering.

The Ministry of Defense of Russia has organized for everyone free admission to any competition within the games. Their schedule can be tracked on the official website of the event.

The III Winter Military World Games, which started at the resort on February 22, ended today in Sochi. Despite the fact that Russia hosted the "army Olympiad" for the first time, the tournament that took place in our country has already been called the best in the history of games.

In terms of the organization and readiness of sports facilities, this best games for the history of all Winter War Games,” said Abdulhakim Al-Shino, President of the International Council for Military Sports (CISM). - This is a serious challenge for Germany, which will host the Games in 2021. In the current world situation, Russia opens its heart to all countries. Such competitions inspire delegations to come here and communicate and maintain contacts.

In turn, the project manager of the military games, Guilherme Keyes, clarified: "After the 2014 Olympic Games in Sochi, perhaps, there is everything for a good organization of large-scale sporting events and, most importantly, the Olympic venues function perfectly."

More than 600 military athletes from 26 countries were able to appreciate all this sporting splendor, many of them - recognized leaders in their disciplines. The program of the Sochi Games included seven sports: biathlon, cross-country skiing, alpine skiing, ski mountaineering, short track, ski orienteering and indoor rock climbing.

And yet, it was our team that took the first place in the medal standings, confidently outperforming the French (second place in the standings) and Italians (third place) in the number of awards.

Even before the official opening ceremony of the military games, the first "gold" of Russia was brought by skier Alexei Chervotkin, who performed best of all in the distance ski race with separate start free style. An hour later, the piggy bank was replenished with the gold medal of the 2017 world champion Maxim Tsvetkov in the 10-kilometer biathlon sprint. In total, during the first day of the competition, the Russian team won 11 medals: six gold, two silver and three bronze.

The second day of the competition was not so successful, despite a good start. Happy in the morning Russian fans two "gold" in the men's and women's races in ski orienteering, but later fortune turned away, pushing our biathletes (in fact, the strongest in these competitions) to third place in mixed relay. Surprisingly, our athletes had as many as five penalty loops on their account.

Before that, in the individual race, the guys gave their best and, apparently, did not have time to recover for the mixed relay. Plus, the bronze medalist of the 2017 World Cup junior sergeant Tatyana Akimova could not participate in the competition due to poor health. In addition, a strong wind made its own adjustments: only one athlete from the French team, Colin Varchin, did not make a single mistake, ”Nikolai Pankratov, CSKA senior winter sports coach and coach of the RF Armed Forces, told reporters. - Unfortunately, our team became the worst in this component - we used 14 extra rounds.

The most successful were the last two days, which brought the Russians more than 15 awards of various denominations in individual and team competitions.

We proved in practice that we can be friends. We can fight honestly sports grounds together to prepare and hold international games of this magnitude. Our main result is the ability to make friends and communicate, - Nikolai Pankov, Secretary of State - Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, is sure.

By the way, the cultural program of the games was no less interesting. For example, in addition to the daily evening concerts of famous Russian performers, the guests of the "Army Olympiad" could see unusual art objects - D-30 howitzers painted in Khokhloma and Gzhel style. Moreover, as it turned out, all combat, they are in service with the Russian army.

Guns in white and blue Gzhel patterns and red and gold Khokhloma still lifes made a splash among tourists. As the organizers admitted, with their help the Russian side decided to acquaint foreign guests with the national flavor. The display of these weapons made it possible to look at the formidable military equipment as a work of art.

“The tracks are organized very well, and the games in general. I think it will good championship. We have very strong competitors from Russia and Slovenia. We must not lose sight of them,- said biathlete Piqueras Garcia Roberto.

Especially for the World War Games, the arena of the "Big ice palace» reprofiled. Now, in place of the ice, there is a professional climbing wall, which was built specifically for these competitions according to the highest international standards.
